My friend is selling their 2009 MBP and I was wondering if it was worth it to buy and maximize it via ram and ssd upgrades. We also haven't agreed upon a price since we don't know what is considered fair. Thoughts on pricing and value would be appreciated! Thanks.

It is a 5 year old machine. What do you intend to use it for? I'd prefer to get a later model from the refurb store. However, I have a 2008 Mac Pro and a 2009 Mac Mini, both run very well. I am certain if I touch a brand new machine I will see these as slow and such, but as they stand, it is good.

I just don't think I'd be buying either machine for myself today.

Is it a 15"? What are the specs?

I'm mostly going to use it for XCode.
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.8GHz.
Ram: 4 GB
500 GB SATA disk

Thanks for the quick reply.

I don't know, I probably would pass at this point unless they wanted $100 for it. Then I may just do it to have it around.

I have a 2009 2.26 with SSD, 1TB combo that is still going strong. I see recent completed listings on eBay for models with lesser specs going for $600 . Who the hell is paying that for these? If I could get it I would but eBay is too risky to sell on.

I paid $400 for my mint Mid '09 with 8GB ram, 7200RPM 500GB HDD, and all OEM accessories. Also came with a sleeve and black snap on case. (13" MBP that is).

It's currently running 10.10.1 waiting for 10.10.2 to download and install. G2G IMHO, as long as you're happy with the price and know it's limitations.

I have a 2009 model, recently put an ssd in it, and it is absolutely fine for Xcode. 8gb ram and a speedy drive for these older machines are essential, then they are not too bad!

I would do it, but at the right price.

Right Price = $300

That is fair based on what they go for on Ebay. He won't get much more and you are a friend.
