Hello, this has happened several times in the past but right now, it took a long time before it returned to normal. While I was watching video, suddenly there was no sound. I pressed F11 and I saw a speaker icon with a circle and a / symbol underneath (see attachment). Pressing F10 and F11 randomly did not improve the situation. I rebooted the machine and same thing. After a few minutes, the machine returned to normal and I can hear sound again. What was going on?

Could be all sorts, a software issue is possible, a hardware issue is very possible a loose connection on a sound card or a bit of corrosion on something on an 8 year old laptop is very possible. I’d imagine this is going by to be very difficult to diagnose using the internet.

I agree with Samuelsan2001, saw this in a MBA and once the sound card was replaced the issue was gone
