Hello fellow Mac-User.

I bought 2010 MBP 13" some weeks ago and I wonder if I can use the video out port for HDMI with audio. I already bought an adapter, but when I plug it in my macbook and in my second display, the video part is working just fine, I don't seem to get any sound, though. I'm pretty sure the 2010 MBP supports audio out via HDMI.

Do I need to activate it somewhere or is my adapter not working?

Chances are that your particular adapter does not support audio for your MBP! What brand is it anyways?

many, many, MANY threads here discussing this. Please search, and you'll find a list of adapters that work, and the system settings you need to change to enable audio.

creating dozens of threads on the same topic cheapens the search results for future searches. please keep this in mind when creating new topics

It's the cheapest adapter I found, made by LogiLink.

Sorry for creating this thread then - I just looked for this topic on google and found nothing so I thought that searching this particular forum was redundant.

I have two HDMI adapters here, both from amazon.de.
With one of them I get audio out, with the other not. They look the same, too.

This adapter has been confirmed to pass audio:

Make sure you select your TV under the Output tab of the Sound settings:

Thanks for this, by the way! I searched for something similar to this but couldn't find anything. This made it easier. That's a really cheap adapter and didn't realize one existed. I was going to go the DVI to HDMI route.

As THIS Apple Support Document states:

Additional Information
Make sure to use a VESA-compliant adapter for full HDMI capabilities.

Actually, the problem is that there are supposedly VESA-compliant adapters out there that actually don't work for audio!

It can FULLY SUPPORT VESA 1.1 !!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG!!1111eleven

... and you'll get nothing. The adapter needs to support VESA 1.2

I ordered the one linked in this thread from Amazon.com, and it does not provide HMDI audio to my LG TV.

Not a bad adapter for $7 shipped, I will probably just use it as my connection to my computer monitor rather than buying a DVI adapter, and just get the Griffin one which seems to be more widely confirmed to work.
