Im about to buy the new MBP 15 but I don't know which one is the best for me and what diferences a faser CPU and a better GPU with more memory would make.

I would use the new computer to do school works, edit some vídeos, code something and maybe some gaming besides of installing Windows and running some havier programs on it.

Thanks for the advice.
(I'm sory if i made some mistake because I'm still learning English)

I think the previous poster is right. If you like to play games on your notebook, go with the 2.2 GHz. From my perusing of these forums, it seems the base model is fine for just about everything (CAD, HD video editing, programming), but not very good for playing demanding games.

I almost got the same model, but since I play absolutely zero games, I couldn't justify spending over $2000. I opted for the base 13" with an SSD. The new TRIM support was the final straw.

The 2.2 is absolutely necessary for college because you get the 1gb graphics card.

Is the 1gb graphics card so necessary when you're using iWork, iLife or some small editing with iMovie? Actually, what would most influence the graphics card on the day use of my Mac?

(and thanks again for the advice)

If you don't plan on playing games there is really no need for the upgraded GPU for day to day use.

Really? I never knew just being in college means it is necessary to have the 1GB graphics card...Now if you are gaming then yes, but writing word documents and what not it is nowhere even close to being necessary.

I went the 2.2ghz. I wanted a SSD so could get it for not much extra on this higher one. SSD + Better graphics card + faster chip for not a huge jump in price over base model and adding 128GB Vertex SSD.

I would definitely recommend the 2.2 Ghz.
I don't think it's worth to upgrade to 2.3 Ghz though. It makes more sense
to save the money and put in a SSD when you have the funds.

There are people in college who don't even have laptops...I say base 15 unless you don't mind shelling out the extra bucks. If I wasn't such a tight wad I would have gotten the 2.2. So it's up to you, Either way you'll be happy.

2.0 would be fine for you. Do yourself a favor and save the $300-$400 and vet the 2ghz.

I just built a faster gaming pc than the $2200 MBP for $440.

I'd save the $400 and get the $1800 MBP.

+1

Please post your Geekbench scores from the $440 computer.

He said a GAMING computer. Geekbench is pretty much USELESS to score a gaming computer lol. Even a highly clocked C2D that cant touch any of the new geekbench scores paired with a nice 4870/GTX 285 etc will still destroy the high end 15" in terms of gaming.
