So considering that the back to school discount comes out Tuesday, I will be buying a new 2011 mbp, everything stock. Using the money from selling the free touch I will be upgrading my mbp by adding a optibay mod, SSD + HDD. My question is which SSD and HDD drives will be most beneficial. I plan on putting the SSD in the original HDD bay and the HDD into superdrive bay. Using the information from danbt79's response I will need the HDD to have sms. https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/851189/

Also as a side note, will this mod void my warranty just for the optical drive. I plan on just adding the optical drive back to its original spot if it needs to be repaired. Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but if this involves voiding my warranty, then just using an external hard drive may be the way to go for me. Thanks for any tips/suggestions.

Also what sizes drives will fit in the mbp, 9.5 mm or 12.5 mm. I was looking around and couldn't find a clear answer. Thanks

If this new back to school thing works out to be an itunes gift card I'm gonna be a little pissed off. We will probably have to pay for the gift card and then get the rebate....

Can anyone confirm or deny this?

It is 9.5mm in the optical bay (b/c it's under the keyboard) and 12.5mm in the main HDD spot.

Also, I agree with the Vertex 3 recommendation, but it will not void your warranty. Just replace the SuperDrive for warranty work.
