Hello everyone, i want to report a third occasion wich makes me believe there is actual causation correlation between 2013 - 2015 retinas (Haswell / Broadwell) hangs-ups and undervolting.
I have had just today the third case of a MBP that was having recurrent restarts, expecially when connected to external display, wich continued to exhibit such behavior even after cleaning, repaste and ssd format, but had the issue occur a lot less (going from certain reboot after a couple of minutes when plugged to ext display and multiple reboots every work day when unplugged, to sporadic monthly reboots) when the system was undervolted with voltageshift - https://sitechprog.blogspot.com/2017/06/voltageshift.html
With all the added benefits of reduced heat, increased battery duration and better performance.
This sounds strange to me because the clients were having reboots randomly (not correlated to load) except incurring more when using ext display. But all of them reported vast improvement: i was able to test quickly myself, had a reboot after apporx 1 hour of use (with a clean os, cleaned board and repaste), and after undervolting not a single reboot in the approx 10 hours of use afterwards, this was just browsing internet and listening to spotify without ext display. The client reported using external display was impossible, but we were now able to watch a whole movie without hiccups (in fact, it never ever crashed anymore after undervolting except during the process of finding the right stable voltages running brucex tests back to back and CB r20 ) .
The other 2 i cured before reported going from hourly reboots making the system impossible to use, to a once a month , saving them for a 500 euros mac store board replacement .
