Message on my MBP 15" mid2015 says battery needs service. Couple of days ago, ac could not charge the better to 100 percent. Info says batter is at 96% and led on cable end is no longer green but orange (power is going in but may not be charging the battery).

I'll have to make a choice to get a new battery or maybe if I get an answer to below - wait and save instead for a new offering of a laptop or Mini.

The MBP presently works okay with ac power. Is the ac power sufficient in itself (assuming the battery will cease to work) to power the MBP? I would prefer to get a new Mac rather than use the money to get another battery. Thoughts?

I would get it replaced given the uncertainties of the ARM transition.

I have a 2014 MacBook Pro 15 and a 2015 MacBook Pro 15 and the batteries on both are fine though they are plugged in most of the time. I expect to have to replace a battery in the next two years - just because I see so many other people having to do this. I hope that the local Apple Store will be open by the time I need to do this as I'd rather not ship it out.

Unfortunately Apple is closing stores again. I hope that they open in our state soon but it might not be up to Apple as to when they can do so. If we opened up our Apple Stores, we'd get flooded with people from the MA where they have far higher numbers.

The problem just started and I just want to stretch out the time a bit more (I have backups). The battery today shows 94 percent and the led on the plug connected remains orange. To be more to the point - will remaining plugged in with the battery showing say 5 percent ...will it still continue to work sans a functioning battery? If I unplug the power cord, the monitor attached to the laptop loses its signal.
