MBP 2016 13" External Monitor Does Not Sync with Lid Closed

Hi,
I have a MBP 13" with touch bar, using a cable matters USB-C / HDMI to a 34" Dell Ultra Wide. The external monitor works find with the Lid open but does not sync when I close the Lid. This is a different behavior than my MBP 13" 2012. I would really like to be able to use my external monitor with the laptop lid closed. Any suggestions?

What do you mean doesn't sync? Doesn't come on? Do you have an external keyboard & mouse or trackpad? Is the laptop plugged in to AC power?

The external monitor should come on and operate with the computer closed if you have an external keyboard and such, just like your 2012 machine. No trouble here with an external Thunderbolt Display, keyboard and mouse. Behaves the same as all previous MacBooks.

does not come on with the lid down. Its plugged in, I have a bluetooth connected keyboard and mouse as well.
