I recently noticed that my touch bar was missing buttons, mainly volume, mute, and brightness sliders were not correct. I tried the reset, kill the touch bar, change to custom touch bar, etc. No dice. Now I notice that the "button" next to the power button is just black. It is THERE, but the spot is dark. I only have one option available for sliding, just to the left of it. Currently this is volume. Anyone else had this happen? is this due to a recent update bug? It was on the prior version of MacOS and it just updated to the latest one today - still a problem.

Big Sur bricks machines, so possibly it bricked your machine. Did it work prior to Big Sur when you had Catalina or Mojave ?

I have similar issue with touch bar on MBP 2016. Only started after Mac OS 11.3 and continued in 11.4. Mine is completely black after sleep and only works after resetting. Nothing helped to permanently solve it so far. Thinking about reinstalling Mac OS

yeah this only happened recently. It has started to just slowly eat away at the right side of my touch bar. Buttons and then partial buttons are just gone. They can still be touched by you can't see them.

This just happened to me. MBP 2019, right side of touch bar useless. I still see siri and the three volume controls, but they don't work. I customized my touch bar to move volume control to the left side, because I like to adjust volume with "buttons", not clicks.
