If I was going to buy another charger for my MBP 2017 15inch, can I get a 30w charger? Will it just charge slower but still work? Thanks.

It should work. I sometimes charge my 15" 2018 MBP with a 30 and 60 watt chargers when I leave my 85 watt charger at home, or am too lazy to walk over to the other side of my office.

Unsure of 30w charger sorry but I regularly charge my 2018 15" MBP with a 45w charger with no problems.

According to Coconut Battery it seems to draw around 18w at idle and maxes at 42w under more load.
When using the supplied 87w charger I haven't seen it go above 60w.

...so anyway you might be ok using a 30w charger for light usage and it should still charge slowly, but anything intense will likely see the battery drain

Is there anywhere in OS X to see the power it’s pulling from a charger at any given time ?

You can see what your Mac is using by doing this in a terminal:

system_profiler SPPowerDataType | grep mA\)

I can get my 2016 13" MBP to hit about -3325 with the cpu maxed and screen brightness cranked
