I need to change my laptop and it's time to switch to MacBook Pro. My laptop is too old now (6year)
The thing with MacBook, it's easy to be lost when you don't know a lot of things (same with laptop under windows)

After looking on the website of apple and build my ''dream'' MBP, I still don't know what I should do because of my wife last night!!

She told me, why not buy the full one, highest processors, ram and everything, so you will be sure to have the MBP for a long time... First I start laughing but after that... I start thinking about that. She is right maybe.

So here my question...

Should a bought the MBP 13'' with the best processor, ram and everything (will cost +- $1500 more) and be sure that I will have it for a long run. Or just buying the MBP that I need will be enough?

That why I'm asking you the question to the specialist :)

Thanks for everything.

Max spec doesn't necessarily translate to better longevity; you'd be far better off waiting for the 8th gen intel chips if anything over a top of the range 7th gen chip just as an example. You can easily double the price by upgrading, but that machine likely won't last you twice as long, buying a second base machine halfway along will do... basically what I'm trying to say is that it's almost never worth upgrading unless you have a specific need for a spec at the time

I totally understand what you mean.

It just worth to buy more RAM in case of.

Thanks for the update. Will give a look at when the 8th gen intel chips will be out and If I can wait until then.

How are you going to use the computer? What kind of storage do you think you need?

I agree that waiting a little while is probably worth it as this point. If it turns out you cannot wait on the 8th gen chips in the event something like your current computer goes up, consider the touchbar model with the base processor and 16 GB of RAM.

With my laptop now I need between 512/1TB. Love keeping a lot of thing on my ssd instead of external hdd.

I will need to run window for 2-3 software for the work but I will use it for some video footage, excel, presentation and more.

I want the 13'' and because of that, a lot of review on the internet said that the I7 is not worth it. So, should I wait for the 8th. I can wait a couple of months if the 8th is WAY better.

Any date on the new MBP?

If you can afford to hold on your old machine for a few more months, the 2018 refresh will probably be worth the wait and give you more in terms of longevity than any BTO option would. Otherwise, if you must buy now, get the 2017 with 16GB RAM and the amount of storage you need (the benefits from upgrading the processor are usually marginal unless you routinely run CPU-intensive tasks, if you don't I'd just save the money).

Sounds good.

If I need it right now,
MBP 13''
3.1 GHz
16gb RAM
512 SSD

Should be ok for a long time?

I know that the I7 is useless for the 13''
Will go read on the difference between the 3.1 and 3.3

Now, If I'm not taking the one with the touch bar, is still worth it?
