Hey guys,

I did receive my MacBook Pro (2018 13" model) a week ago, and just noticed there's a pretty bad screen defect that is only visible on dark backgrounds. I guess this is the reason I didn't see it until I fired up iA Writer with its dark mode today. However, I cannot say for sure if it has been there since day one or not. The MacBook does have absolutely no external damage and was never dropped whatsoever.

Do you have any idea what this defect is? Looks unlike anything I've ever seen. Also, am I in for a long repair? Because I really need to use this machine now, I don't have time to send it in and wait a month for a repair (there are no Apple Stores in my country, so that's not an option).

Looks a little like a Siri response window. :D
Is that in only one location, and only when you have iA Writer open?

If it is always on a dark background (and still shows even when you quit iA Writer), then use your warranty...

Thanks, yeah, it's on every dark background, seems like a panel defect to me. Already arranged a return, will get my new one by Tuesday. :)

Are you being sarcastic and I don't get it? Because the defect is VERY clearly visible in the photo in my first post. Hint: The screen is supposed to be all black.
I'm serious, I'm not seeing any defect

Are you saying that you don't have Siri on waiting for your input and you see what I can only explain as Siri's visual representation. Is that purplish line (lack of a better explanation) always present?

Also if that is the defect how could that be missed even if the background wasn’t black?!

This is roughly in the center of the screen, far from where Siri would be. Also, it's present no matter what the OS is doing, you can even see it in recovery mode where there's no Siri for certain.

If the screen is showing any color other than dark grey or black, you absolutely cannot see there's anything wrong with the screen. The defective part shows all other colors just fine.

Holy hell !!!

This looks like the result of an impact (during manufacture, delivery, etc.)

Since it’s so new it may be a refund, but otherwise they need to replace half the laptop.

Your picture really does look like a Siri responder window, and certainly is the reason that several here have gone in that direction - and I can be pretty sure that no one has intended any sarcasm with that diagnosis.

If that "SIRI-look-alike" does not respond when you talk to it, moving with respect to audio input (try speaking when you first see it, then wait a few seconds), and there is no animation with that (stays totally still), then, it's a defect (and one that I have never seen before)
Return your MBPro.
