hi,

I own a older (but good) USB Keyboard. Unfortunately, it only works if I reboot the MBP. If I make a "hot plug", it will be identified as HUB and not working correctly.

USB-Info after fresh reboot:

As you see, It alters the Product-ID (from 0x100c to 0x100d).

No problems in Bootcamp with this. keyboard.
Any ideas?

No, it works fine on my Windows PC, in Bootcamp and after Reboot and before the 1th login after reboot in Catalina.

It could be software, either in the Mac or the keyboard. Going with the Mac, confirm that you're running the latest OS. If so, and if you suspect a driver problem, I suppose a reinstall wouldn't be out of the question but it does seem extreme to get a keyboard working. Try testing the keyboard in a different use account.

Also, you said it only works as a keyboard after a reboot. What about logging out and back in?

No, it won't work. Sorry, I'am new with Mac. The 1th login page came very quickly. The rest of the MacOS is loading after the 1th login (I think, it will unlock Filefault and TouchID)

I'm sorry, but I don't quite understand. Are you saying that if you log out, you can't use the external keyboard to log back in because it isn't recognized after a hot plug?

I mean I had the same issue, if I was already logged on, logged off, unplug and plug the keyboard. If I made it before the 1th logon after reboot, it works fine (I can unplug and plug it).

Keyboards are cheap.
Try a different keyboard if you don't want to keep fooling (and getting nowhere) with that one.

Sounds like a driver problem. Is this keyboard only made for Windows? Some keyboards, especially the older models, are OS specific. Sometimes you can get away with it until OS versions change enough that a driver update will become necessary for continued proper operation.

You may need a different keyboard with this new machine.

I do some final test tomorrow. Currently, I dont't have a different keyboard (only a very old IBM-Keyboard with an PS/2 connector).

Yes, but Windows uses his "normal" HID keyboard driver.

I may be misunderstanding your issue. You’re using a PS/2 Keyboard. It probably connects to a USB-A connector and then you are connecting to a USB-C port. That’s fine.

You said the keyboard works for Windows, but you have problems with Catalina? Is that correct?

If the above is correct, you probably need to invest in a newer keyboard. I say this because I also have the same 2020 13” with 4TB ports and I have no issues with my keyboard in Windows (in Parallels) or Catalina. Mine is a wireless keyboard that will work in both OS.
