Hey girls and guys,

i have a 2020 MBP (4TB) and since 10.15.6 I have an enormes amount of problems with this machine - especially with Thunderbolt Docks (mentioned in specific thread). But since 10.15.7 my MBP is even having problems connecting with a 4K USB-C display (HP Z32). Since I can't use my Thunderbolt accessory's anymore (Bug since 10.15.6) I drive my 4K display over the USB-C connection, which powers the Macbook, delivers Data (USB 2.0 speed) and of course the picture. Before 10.15.7 I was able to do drive the display in 4K @ 60 Hz no matter the scaling. Now the MBP sometimes does not even recognize the display (especially in clamshell mode) and when it does - it is only able to drive it @ 30 Hz which is almost unusable for me. I habe now figured out, that I can drive it @ 60Hz if I set the scaling to "native". But 4K in native resolution is quite tiny .... So I wonder why suddenly the MBP is not able to do this. I tried another cable - same problem. Tried both cables with an iPad Pro (2018) and there it works, so seems like the MBP is the faulty one.

I am already really angry, that this machine has been so unreliable before, but now its almost impossible to work with this thing. When I have time I will (again) completely wipe it and try my luck but it seems really strange that each update has made this machine worse. Maybe someone has an explanation or the same problems or even a solution.

Greetings

This is all very strange and a call to Apple support is in order. I have a 2020 MBP, 1 TB, 32 GB Ram hooked up to the
LG 24" 4K display that Apple offers and it's been a fantastic combination with absolutely none of the issues you are talking about.

I didn't think a pure USB-C could drive 4K @ 60Hz. Only 30Hz. I believe TB3 is required to push 4K @ 60Hz. So whatever issue you have with TB3, it sounds like that needs to be addressed. Sounds like some kind of integration issue with that monitor. I have an LG and Dell monitor that I run both at 4K with a TB3 accessory that connects to the monitors via HDMI.
