As the title states I have a MBP 3,1 15" model running 10.7. And without wanting to spend the money on upgrading to a whole new computer I plan on upgrading the Memory, and at the same time I was wondering about upgrading the Hard Drive. It still has the original HDD from Apple, but I was thinking about swapping it out for an SSD. I know that this model has a SATA(I) connection, and I was planning on getting a Kingston Hyper X SATA III SSD.

My question is, would I get any trouble if I would take out the original Apple Drive, upgrade it to a Kingston Hyper X SSD SATA III Hard Drive? Hoping that it wouldn't be an issue on the connection end since the SSD has a connection of 6.0Gb/s and the original is 1.5Gb/s. Then upgrade to 10.8?

Thanks!

The drive will fall back to SATA I speed.

Unless you plan to put the SSD into a SATA III computer later on, you could save by purchasing a 7.2k HDD instead.
