Yes, you read that right...MacBook Pro 4,1. DIY upgrade on memory (4GB) and hard drive (500GB SSD); runs Mavericks well, struggles a bit with El Cap (broken tagging in 10.11 was a deal breaker so I’m back on 10.9).
Bottom line: It does 95% of what I need right now, that 5% is only what I feel I’m missing by pairing this laptop with a 6S on iOS 9 (upgraded from 3GS running iOS 5).
I know anything would be an upgrade over my current system but should I pull the trigger now or wait? Added variable is 10% cash back on Discover/Apple Pay through 12/31.
I want to stay with the 15” form factor and I would expect to keep the new MBP for at least 4 years, if not as long as the current one.
Thoughts?
