I already have an iMac 17" 2.0Ghz 1Gb RAM
My question is what kind of performance jump will i see if i buy a 15" 2.16Ghz C2D MBP with 1gb of RAM
if any or should i just go with the macbook and keep my current computer for heavy lifting such as Aperture, Final Cut, Studio 8, Adobe CS(i refuse to upgrade to CS3)
my plan was to buy the MBP and give my iMac to my mom because her PC is almost dead

Yeah i know there is another thread on this but it is not so helpful

Thanks

Chris

I would suggest keeping the iMac, and buying your mother a Mac mini. Even though the MBP is more expensive, that doesn't necessarily guarantee a processing boost. Check out this thread: https://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=3524498#post3524498

I NEED a laptop i am tired of dragging my iMac everywhere(i know its not good for the computer) i need something portable. My mom was planning to buy a new computer eventually but i thought i'd give my old one to her, but if i still need it then she can buy her new computer(gonna be a mac mini) when her PC dies

If you bought the MacBook, you wouldn't see any change in performance when running things like OS X, iLife, iWork, etc. However, if you're going to use the pro apps (aperture, final cut, etc.) you're better off with the MacBook Pro. The graphics card in the MBP will make the pro apps much snappier.

Not to mention the MBP will handle games as well
