MBP Airport Issue

This issue is strange so I don't know if it's my wireless router or MBP Airport. I'm running snow leopard. Now, when I open my MBP my airport connects almost instantly and stays connected with a good signal. Now, when I close it and it goes to sleep and I reopen about 5 minutes later it seems to not even pick up the wireless signal and won't connect. After a couple of hours it will connect again and work fine. This makes me believe that its not the wireless router and the airport is acting funky.

Any suggestions?
