There was a discussion a couple of years ago about Apple's plan to unify MBP and iPad hardware and OS. As Apple strips away ports from the MBP and adds iOS features to MacOS, they seem to be well on their way. Yeah?

Apple Says Touchscreen Macs 'Not a Particularly Useful or Appropriate Application of Multi-Touch'

Given what Apple stated in the linked article, I'd say there's not going to be any convergence between the iPad and Mac. I do think OS X and iOS will continue its march to closer integration but I don't think we'll see a single unified OS for both platforms (I hope). I think changes will be similar to that what apple has already done, such as the shared clipboard

Hmm I think ultimately this will be market driven whatever Apple say. If everyone starts buying Surface's and complaining abotu lac of touch screen macs - the market will make it happen eventually.
