Hi, im new here so please be gentle :p

Right, I'm gearing up to buy a MBP 17" for use with various audio apps and am a bit confused about the audio in/out.

Am i right in thinking that the same minijack sockets are used for both analog and digital ins an outs? and if so how do i utilise the digital option, such as outputing digitally to my PCs soundcard for instance (an E-MU 1212m) which has ADAT and spdif ins?.. if so, how (what cable would i need?)

cheers for any advice.
:)

Yes you are right. It's a fibre optic 1/8" to SPDIF cable.

I presume that to connect my MacBook to my Apple iPod Hi-Fi I would need 2 adaptors?

Also - these things are not easy to track down locally; I would need to order. Is the improved sound quality significant over a standard mini plug cable?

Thanks.
