MBP audio output will randomly move balance left?

Ok, can't really figure this one out. Every once and awhile, I'll realize through either my headphones or speakers that the output audio from my Macbook Pro will be too heavy on the left speaker.

Sure enough, when I go into the Sound properties, the balance knob will be halfway on the left side. Does anyone have any idea how this happens? I'm not doing anything specific to warrant this happening...it just seems to be random? Any ideas? Thanks!

That's a bit of a bug in OSX and has been around for ages. I'm surprised it hasn't been fixed although to the best of my knowledge, nobody's really quite sure what causes it...
