I would LOVE to find a safe way to make by Core i7 2010 MBP stay awake when I close the lid.

I've read ten threads on this, but they all point me to InsomniaX, with serious warning labels. I'm not willing to endanger the stability of my computer to make this work.

Are there any other options that I'm not seeing? I tried plugging in my DP/HDMI adapter, but it didn't seem to work, since there was no monitor connected at the other end.

Thoughts?

One follow up point, I have a USB cooling fan under the computer, and don't think I should have any heat problems.

I did run InsomniaX without problems on my 2009 MBP while it was using all of its CPU. I just cranked the fans to 4000RPM and the temps were around 80° C.

Thanks. I've read too many warnings about the problems Insominax has caused people. I don't want to risk it.

Any other options open to me at all?
