Hello All,

Recently I saw a warning come up for my battery in my MBP, so went to get it checked, and sure enough there was an issue with it, (not just getting old).

A quick check on the replacement price here, (no official Apple stores), US$ equivalent:
*new battery $175
*labour $95
* + some other random charge which I forget

Total to get it done 'officially', US$285! Crazy.

I ended up doing it myself and was shocked when I realised how easy it was, like literally a 2-3 minute job, and yet the Apple Reseller was going to charge $95 labour costs to do it!

Reminded me of a shop I once saw where they offered a $60 service to reformat a HDD to be compatible with OSX...

How can they justify such a rip?! (Admittedly, Apple tries similar things with some of their BTO prices...).

What's the biggest 'legit computer/Apple scam' you've seen?

Most stores try to rip off customers with service fees due to low sale margins.
