Has anyone heard of this issue?

A few days ago, it looked like my battery died. The battery indicator says "Replace Now" as its condition and would basically die the moment I unplugged it. I tried resetting the SMC and all that a few times and nothing worked, so I just assumed that the battery was dead and I would have to get a new one.

Now today, the battery is working normally and the system doesn't give that message any more (it just gives the normal time remaining). Is my battery almost dead anyway, and this is some fluke before it dies for good? Or did resetting the SMC somehow fix it?

How old is the battery? How many cycles do you have on it?

Try downloading Battery Health from the Mac App Store. It will tell you how much life is left on the battery in terms of capacity, the amount of cycles, predicted times, and the age. If your battery is over 300 cycles and is dying quickly it could be failing. The reason why it came back to life is most likely that the battery cycled which extends the life a little bit. Essentially, if it is low on capacity in terms of health, get it replaced.

Here's the information from Battery Health and System Information:
