MBP Brightness Adjustments

is there a way to make minor changes to the screen brightness, sometimes I need to be able to go a littler dimmer than the dimmest setting allows, or a brightness setting between two "steps" would often be preferable.

Shades is a good utility if you want to go darker than the default brightness settings. You can use it via keyboard shortcuts, or menubar/floating sliders - the latter allows for smaller adjustments in brightness.
