I've always struggled finding a decent MacBook case (hard shell) and now that my new 14" is due soon I am looking again. Amazon seems to sell a gazillion of them, all of them near identical cheap plastic of rubbish quality. Some will crack within days, others might last a year. Some cover vents. Some even scratch the mb. Any google searches only come up with (clearly) paid-for affiliate lists of the same crappy cases and most are US only.
I don't want a sleeve, as my laptop does not leave my house, but I'd like to keep it as good as new for future sales and so prefer to protect it from general wear.
Has anyone found a good case - preferably in the UK/Europe?

You can try those expensive hard shell that Apple sell in their store. Otherwise there are no good and cheap cases available.

I’m in a bit of the same dilemma, but it is with finding a good quality padded sleeve. Like you said, Amazon has a gazillion of them on their site. The reviews of them seem to be all over the map, ranging from poor quality, fitment issues or the best thing that someone has ever bought. I think that I might have found one at Apple, but I am waiting to get to an Apple store to check it out.

Ever consider using a skin cover instead?

I've never used a case on any laptop and never had any damage either in the house or traveling. Used to lug a Lenovo laptop to/from work every day and it never got messed up. Since retiring my MacBooks have been all over the country and looked almost new when I disposed of them (sales or gifts). When portable it's kept in a padded backpack and usually only used on a desk/table or occasionally on my lap.

A case can cause more wear and tear if dirt gets inside and movement of the case rubs it against the Mac. The case needs to be removed often and cleaned of any dust and dirt.

I’m a fan of the TomToc padded folio cases.

Even for use at home, its easy to slip the laptop in the folio when not actively using it.

I ordered the Moshi Iglaze, it was notably cheaper then Tech21, will be my first time running a hard case on a laptop, hope it works out.

Thanks everyone, I might try that 'dot' one in the apple store, will look up the ones you guys are suggesting.
As for 'no case'....I just don't dare. My mbp lives just on my desk and nothing will probably happen but the less wear it gets the better I suppose.

Too scared. seen people struggle to get it off, it's a glorified sticker at the end of the day. And no edge protection and you'll see that that one button/zip will scratch my mbp when using it on my lap - or whatever.
