I recently sold my iMac and thinking of the below setup.

MBP -> DisplayPort -> Dell U2711
PS3 -> HDMI -> Dell U2711

I have an AudioEngine 5 (AE5) that I will like to connect to my MBP and PS3. Allowing the MBP and PS3 to output sound through the AE5.

Is this setup achievable?

Seems viable to me, as long as you only have one turned on at a time, OR you have a way to switch between inputs on the monitor.

The monitor allows switching of input between HDMI and DisplayPort. I'm confused on how the PS3 is gonna output audio through the AE5, I do not wish to do any unplugging of wires.

I have the Dell U2410. I have not tried the audio out from the display port bc my Mac doesn't support it but I have hooked up DVD and AppleTv 2 via HDMI and it passed audio out of the analog 1/8" jack to external speakers without a problem.
