My MBP (2GHz /100gig HD/ 256mb video version June /06) was sitting open on line power with the screen saver activated and the display began flashing on and off on and off black to screen-saver and back... a bit quicker than once per second. Waking it from screen saver stopped the flashing. It did it twice more and again after reboot.
Other issues-
I also had a hot battery and short battery life issue and processor temps that reached 84ºC on 2 or 3 occasions with only bluetooth, word and safari open - it's typically 54ºC - (anyone know the normal range?) -
I hit the Apple Store Genius Bar this afternoon.
They had NEVER seen the flashing behavior nor could they pick up any relevant advisories from the network. He checked sleep and screen saver timing conflicts, but there were none.
The Genius looked up the battery # to check recall and found it to be eligible for replacement - (Hooray!, when I did that I swore it was not in the eligible list of serials??! I kept my mouth shut.) He offered to apply for the "battery exchange program by mail" right there and I accepted. OOPS "Not Eligible" came up (I was right about the serial # after all - mouth still zipped). So the guy decided to exchange it anyway right then and there. If there was a battery problem there is no longer.
I just got back home with it and I am charging and calibrating (cycling) the new battery. I also reset the Power Management Unit (my idea not his!) and so far the flashing display hasn't reoccurred.
Of course I did the requisite google search and found nothing.
Anyone ever hear of this?
