Is this possible?

What performance can I expect?

What is needed?

would it be worth it?

Thanks to everyone that came and helped :)

I've hooked up my 2010 15" hires MBP to my 2010 46" Sony Bravia, and it worked perfectly. All you need is a good MDP to HDMI cable. If your MBP is 2010, or later, you can use a cable with built in audio pass-through. My cable is by Kanex, a bit pricey, but I got it on sale at the Apple Store during last year's Black Friday sale, and it's a quality product. A single cable is a better solution than an MDP > HDMI dongle and HDMI cable combo.
