MBP drama lol

hello,
i am looking to buy a macbook pro in the following months (after updates of course) and cant decide between,

1)15" macbook pro, with 23" acd

or

2) 17" macbook pro with high def screen

either way when i use it at home i will have a wireless mouse and keyboard attached, want the 1920 by 1200 resolution (for at home in the least). it will be used at home mostly, prob about 75% home, 25% uni.
what do you reckon is a better 'investment'?
Also want to put one of the, WD scorpio 320 gb 7200 rpm drives in it, are there any issues with these drives in the macbook pro?

Personally, I would choose the 15" MBP and the external. The smaller MBP is more portable, and overall the external will give you more screen real estate then if you went with just the 17".
