I recently purchased a Mini DisplayPort | Thunderbolt to HDMI with audio support for my MBP to hook up to my external monitor so I can dual screen.

Here is the cord: http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10428&cs_id=1042802&p_id=5311&seq=1&format=2

Now my question is... my external is capable of 1680x1050 however in the system preferences the best I can do on it is 1024x768.

Does anyone know a fix on how I can get better resolution? Here is a link to the monitor if it helps at all.

Thanks!

Weird, when I connected my Dell SX2210(http://accessories.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=ca&l=en&s=corp&sku=320-7976) to my 13", it only ran in the 13inch native's resolution for a while(not mirrored*). I didn't run any calibration, or detected any displays, but my macbook eventually identified my monitor, detected and saved my monitor as "Dell SX2210", and changed it from my MBP13" native resolution(1080x800) to my monitor's native resolution(1920x1080).

Did you try the detect displays/and/or calibrating your monitor? I'm not at my apartment that I have all this connected at, but mine just plug n' played and worked...

After re-reading what you wrote, it may be the the Thunderbolt >> HDMI that's not letting your computer read what kind of monitor it is. I bought a Thunderbolt >> DVI, if its helpful =/.

----------

Actually, what year MBP do you have?

Maybe it is the Thunderbolt to HDMI that is causing the problem...I hope not. I'll keep tinkering and see if I can get anything to work.

And 2011. I got it this summer.
