I have a Late 08 MBP and recently I have been having some strange problems with my drive. It won't read commercial disks (DVD movies, software CDs etc..). It just spins for a while and pops them out. However if I put in a bank CD or DVD, it will read it fine and allow me to burn. I can reuse those discs time and time again without any issues. Could the drive be failing? I just find it weird that it won't read factory pressed disk but it can for blank ones. Thanks.

Similar thing happened to my late 07 MBP. It wouldnt read any sort of DVD(blank or movie) but it would read and burn CDs. Took it to the Genius and he said the drive had failed. Replaced it free of charge because it was still under AppleCare.
