Ever since the beginning the dvd drive in my mbp has been amazingly noisy. Sounds like the disc is being grinded to death.
Lately it's been acting up more and more. Take's a loooong time to recognize the disc while it's grinding, clicking, wheezing and crunching for several seconds, sometimes a couple of minutes!
If I forgot to eject a dvd before shutting down and it needs to boot up with the dvd in the drive, it honestly last an eternity before its started up and all along it performs this macabre grinding concerto.
dvd player occasionally can't read certain parts of a dvd, saying "skipping damaged area". The dvd is brand new, fresh from the box.
What should I do now? Any way to "test" if my hardware is broken?
