MBP External Monitor Black Bars

Hi there,

I'm getting black bars on the left and right of my external monitor.

I have a Macbook Pro hooked up to an Asus VE278q via a minidisplay to VGA. VGA cable is brand new.

I'm have the mirrored image turned off and have the dock/menu set to the external 27" monitor. It appears to be in 1920x1080 BUT it has black bars about 1.5' wide on the left and the right. Very annoying.

Is there any way to fix this?
