When booting up my 2021 Macbook Pro M1 Max with filevault enabled (macOS 12.2.1) attached to my external monitor in clamshell mode, my bluetooth devices, such as my keyboard and mouse, cannot connect to the macbook pro. I have to open my macbook, enter in the password with the macbook's keyboard, and THEN the bluetooth devices work.

Anyone else run into this? Thanks.

What brand KB and mouse are you using? Apple OEM or some other brand?

I know people using Logitech BT KB and mice have had this issue because until you login and the system boots, the third party drivers are not running to the KB and mouse won't work.

Yes, both are Logitech… I wonder if there’s been an announced upcoming fix…?

That is the problem then. I don't think a fix is possible. When you first boot a FileVault enabled Mac, it actually is booting to a sealed boot volume that is not part of the main operating system. So I don't see any way for a third party to add drivers to that boot volume even if they wanted to.

The only difference is that I had an apple keyboard but still had the Logitech mouse. I'm pretty sure the mouse would move on the filevault login screen. If so, perhaps the presence of the apple keyboard allowed the logitech mouse to work too...?

I use an Apple KB and Logitech BT mouse on my 14" M1 MBP (FV enabled) and just rebooted to test and the Apple KB works while the Logitech mouse does not. I can see the mouse cursor at the top left of the screen but the mouse won't move it.

It seems that Apple probably resolved this problem in Ventura. I have just bought Keychron K2 v2 being ready to disable Filevault encryption. And surprise - it works perfectly in BT mode to enter my password after powering on my MBP with Filevault encryption enabled! Now maybe it is Keychron-only compatibility, but I really doubt it, worth checking with other brands!
