I just had my logic board replaced by Apple. Every since I got it back, the fans are always spinning, even when I boot. Is there any way to fix this? It is really killing the battery life.

Thanks.

My fans are always running around 2,000 rpm. They only spin faster under more extreme situations. I don't think you want to turn them off, since the heat would be excessive.

I do not want them completely off. 2,000 would be fine and then adjust. But they are always spinning around 6,000.

have you tried an SMC reset? PRAM reset is usually good after a logic board replacement. also double check if they serialized the logic board by going to Apple>About this Mac> click the version of OS X a few times until serial pops up.

smc reset:
1. pull battery and magsafe power
2. hold power button for 10 seconds.

PRAM reset:
1. make sure computer has battery/power
2. hold apple (command) + option + P + R right after pressing power button and wait for 2 chimes.

I do not have a serial number listed under about this mac. How can this be fixed?

I tried the SMS reset and PRAM reset. No luck, fans still loud and fast.

you will have to take the computer back to the store that repaired it. They have special software that writes the serial to the logic board. It's a common mistake.

while you're there tell them about the fan issue.

Is this an urgent issue (serial number)? I am at college and it costs me $50 each way in cab fair to the nearest Apple store.
