For some reason my computer will freeze almost every time I put in a password to log in to anything. I have not been able to pin point when it occurs, it has happened in both Firefox and Safari, as well as when I actually put in my password for my Apple ID on the computer.

Any advice?

Have you restarted your Mac? That solves many issues. Also, use Disk Utility to verify your drive and repair, if necessary.

I've actually tried both of these things multiple times. This has been going on for quite a while now. I have figured out though than when it freezes if I just shut my laptop and open it back up it will unfreeze??

Diskwarrior for 100.00 or re-install base system. Have you tried creating another account to see if the pauses are present there as well? It is a very quick check.
