MBP Froze after security update

I have a 2007 15" MBP. All was working fine, until last night when I was notified that a security update and java update were available. So I downloaded and installed them as I have done many times in the past. All went well until I was ask to restart the computer. Now it is stuck on the gray screen with the apple and the spinning thing. Will stay on that screen for hours, any suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks
