mbp gets frozen when i play a dvd

hey!
my mbp gets frozen when i insert a dvd and then nothing happens and there is just a loading sign which comes and i cant do any other operation after that... i have to force turn off my mbp and that really freaks me out... need help... is it a problem with the dvd or a problem with my drive? pls help
