Hey all! I've had my MBP for the last two years and it's served me pretty well. However, I've had a new magsafe adapter, inverter assembly, fan assembly, 2 batteries, and what could be a new hard disk.
I noticed problems when Time Machine was backing up and gave me some errors. After Mail, Safari, Firefox, and iPhoto began to hang and OSX froze, I got worried. Then I tried backing up with SuperDuper and it would hang for hours at the same point. Finally, I got most of my data off the drive and still had problems with copying some of the folders and files. Now I'm running TechTool Deluxe and running a surface scan which has revealed 75 errors and it's not even close to being finished.
I know I can zero out the hard disk and try to reinstall, which I'll try as soon as this is done. I've read conflicting reports, are surface scan errors indicative of a failing drive? I can't risk my data and I don't want to run off of an external hard disk and pray that my data will be okay.
Now, I need my computer for work next week and this is certainly an inconvenient time for this to happen. I do have AppleCare, but will they cover a "failing" drive as opposed to a "failed" drive?
Thanks in advance!
