Hi,

I have a 2011 MACBOOK PRO, 2.3GHz Intel Core i5 with 4GB 1333MHz DDR3.

Everything is stock Apple. I ran out of hard drive space.
I purchased a Seagate Momentus (Model # ST1000LM024)1TB hard drive (5400RPM) with 8 MB cache.

I also purchased Apricorn's drive replacement w/ external case.

I have used three different ways to backup my existing hard drive to the new one....all three completed the transfer 100%, all good to go. The three methods used were the System utility, Apricorns own product and Shirtpocket.

However, when I went to install the new drive and boot the system, I got a nasty kernel error. It stated along the lines "Kernel panic.....cpu unrecognized".
I tried rebooting each time to my OS X system CD-but I would get the same error. When I put my original drive back into the laptop, everything would boot fine....so, I am pretty sure it is the new hard drive.

Any ideas or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

OBTW: This is my wifes laptop, so failure is not an option!

Seagate forum to check out known issues. You might need to update the HDD firmware to latest version...

Have you tried doing a fresh install of OS X to the new drive? If that works you could then migrate everything from the old drive.
