I have a 17-inch, Mid 2010 MacBook Pro. My MBP's battery is dead. I have to connect the power cord to my laptop at all time.

Recently my MBP starts to have "wake up problems". After putting display to sleep and computer to sleep, I cannot wake up my laptop, and have to force quit and reboot it.

I don't know what is wrong, and am thinking about getting a new battery.

Just that I don't plan to spend too much money on the new battery. So what "3rd party battery brands" you'd recommend? And how much would it cost to get the MBP repaired?

BTW, can I just turn off the "put computer to sleep"? What is causing the problems? Any suggestion is appreciated.

I turned off the Put Computer To Sleep, and still have wake up problems.

Battery-buying is a crapshoot, even from the "reputable" retailers (I've read right here on macrumors about complaints of batteries from ifixit).

Almost like Forrest Gump and the box of chocolates:
"You never know what you're going to get".

The battery may or may not have something to do with the wake-up problems.
You'll find that out AFTER you've changed the battery.

Have you considered that it might be time to start shopping for a replacement?
Take a good look at the MacBook Pro 16" model.
