hello everyone, the usb in my 15" mid-2010 mbp is having some problems.. here i try to explain what happened during the last few days:
i found out i had issues when trying a video call from skype: no camera was found, and not even in photobooth/facetime!
i tried pram, nvram, smc reset, but then problems just got worse: intermittent keyboard/trackpad behavior, making the computer nearly impossible to use.
i left the pc off overnight, turned it on again in the morning, and it apparently works better, but still no facetime(isight for the old fashioned) detected. whatever, no that big deal, at least.
i go to the apple store (luckily for me there's one in my town, i live in bologna, italy) and they tell me at 99% chance i have to replace the logic board, and it will cost me around 400€. they also run a hw check from an ethernet cable, and it shows there's no bluetooth and no isight detected!
i go back home, and find out that after few minutes the pc is on, keyboard/trackpad/usb are working intermittently, and eventually leading to a kernel panic, i think it might be an overheating issue, so i crank the fans to 5000rpm using smcfancontrol and... it works!
i still have no facetime and i suspect one of the two usb ports is dead too, but at least i can still use the computer!
i also verified that if i let the pc run hotter, all the usb devices (internal and external) start to go crazy, but as soon as it cools down again, everything goes back to "normal".

now the question(s):
-is it true that the only fix possible is to replace the whole logic board? isn't there a cheaper, easier solution? i don't mind losing the webcam, but i'd like to prevent the other usb hub from frying as the other one!
-could it be just some cable connection going loose? i opened my pc several times to replace ram and hd, but never went further than removing the ODD, i also notice that the two fans make a distinctly different noise, could it be that one of the two is clogged with dust i can't reach?
thank you very much for your support!!
