MBP IR receiver for mouse and keyboard.

I noticed that the MBP has an IR receiver and i was wondering if there is a program or utility that would allow me to use my wireless keyboard and mouse using that built in receiver rather than the original USB one since i would rather save one of my only two USBs and don't want to spend extra money on a bluetooth one (also don't trust they will work very well.)
