Hey,
a friend gave me his "old slow and broken" Macbook pro 13 late 2011 that has a partly defective keyboard and that doesn't charge the battery. The Keyboard types double characters for some keys
(2< 3^ 4+ 5ü 6´ 5ü and so on), i guess i just have to replace the keyboard and be good with that.
but the not charging battery is another story.
he told me, that all of the sudden the battery stopped charging years ago. as a result, the battery is completely drained to 0% and, so i guess, absolutely due for replacement.
my friend never tried to reset the smc after the macbook stopped charging, so i don't know if that would have helped or a hardware defect (like a zapped magsafe-board or logic board) caused the problem. looking at the coconut-battery results we see (i guess), that the battery was in a not-so-bad condition when the charging stopped, because it still had nearly 80% of its original capacity.
i guess i have two options here now:
1. a hardware defect caused the problem. so a new battery won't change anything, it would still not charge (so new magsafe board + new battery or logic board + new battery)
2. a smc reset would have saved the battery. it doesn't charge after smc/pram reset now because the battery is so drained that the macbook doesn't charge it for safety reasons. new battery and all good.
so now my question: do you guys have ideas how i can check if i'm facing situation 1 or 2 without buying a new expensive battery, maybe for nothing?
thanks in advance for any help!

Symptoms:
- Not Charging, magsafe light green all the time, no orange
- Battery status: "replace now" and not being charged
- smc reset with magsafe in causes 100% fan continuously and no battery detected (NA)
- smc reset with magsafe off normal behavior: no charging, 0% charge, kernel_task throttling (which i have killed)
- removing magsafe instantly kills the macbook
Tried so far:
- multiple smc and pram resets
- multiple times reconnecting the battery
- leaving it alone on the charger for 2 days straight
- updating from lion to high sierra
