MBP Late '08 | Shift & 3 = # ???

Is this just me?

Shift & 3 should be the pound sign, but I'm getting the # sign.

Is this a UK thing? In the US, # = pound sign.

Sounds like you might have your MBP set to America input.

Go to System Preferences - International - Input Menu

If you want to check what is the current input format check "Show Input in Menu Bar" and a little flag will appear by the clock.

If you want/need to put it in British put a check by British and remove any other selected there or click on the little flag and select British.

how do you get a hash symbol on a UK mac keyboard. Its been driving me nuts for about a year now. Where is it?

Oh never mind just found it. Lol took me long enough ####### yes! Holding the alt key and pressing 3! also I found a whole bunch of weird characters. ¡€#¢∞§¶•ªº––≠œ∑´®†¥¥¨^øπ“‘«æ…¬˚∆˙©ƒ∂ßå`Ω≈ç√∫~µ≤≥÷

If you go enable the flag as described above you can click it and select "Show Keyboard Viewer", this will bring up an onscreen keyboard which will show you what each key will input and will change depending on the modifiers.
