MBP late 2008 only skype can connect to www

hi all,

just bought the MPB late 2008 model. i connected it in my workplace everything worked great until i found whenever i used skype to call somebody, it becomes the only application can access to the internet. anyone can help?

That's very strange...is there some sort of proxy monitoring internet usage and/or limiting bandwidth at your workplace?

Your DNS is down then.
Try using 208.67.222.222 as a DNS server. (opendns).
Test it and let us know.

Or ur DNS is not configured on the mbp.

Skype is one of the few apps that do not use DNS.

Seems very odd, it all seems to work well for me.

i tried the open DNS with no luck...
and i had asked the IT guy, he said no need to said proxy either...

anything i hv to provide in order to trouble shoot?

so let me get this straight...you can surf the web, receive email just fine...and when you connect to Skype you can't anymore?

if that is the case can you try using the ping utility in Network Utility to try contacting a few websites while you are connected to Skype....say www.yahoo.com (does the computer resolve the name to an IP address...and do you get a reply back from that IP address?)
