hi all

i wonder if you remember the whine problem on the MB/MBP a few years ago

like if the motherboard was doing some quiet but irritating noise

well, i feel my late 2011 15" MBP is doing it

like battery charging noise or something

i was wondering if anyone else noticed this

thanks

No, I don't know about this problem.

Batteries don't make noise. Hard drive, DVD drive and fan are the only mechanical parts left in a modern laptop. I guess it's the hard drive or the fans.

Ok, I also have an SSD, and I have to be in a very very quiet room to at least be able to hear the fans. There is absolutely no other noise from my MBP.

It's probably the SSD. Many of the SSDs I own whine in some way or another.

It usually whines during an intensive read or write. It very high pitched and yes it's annoying. I've gotten used to it.

Really? I didn't know that. Either mine doesn't make noise, or it's too high for me to hear.

Quick Look Helper process. Nothing can be down about it other than ⌘+j and deselecting show icon preview in finder.

What noise exactly are you referring to? On my late-2011 MBP I can also frequently hear this barely audible noise, it's like wind "whistling" sort of... Hard to explain, but I'm pretty sure it's the fans sound. It usually occurs when the fans are spinning at 2100+ rpm, and never when below that number. Is that what you are experiencing?

Pretty annoying in a quiet room like mine, I must say.
