I have a very confusing issue with my MBP non touch bar. Since day 1 I have had it plugged into an external display through either a USB C to HDMI cable, or more recently, a dockcase case which has an integral hub containing USB C ports and an HDMI plug. Both solutions worked flawlessly up until yesterday. The dockcase was still working but I was getting no signal on my external monitor. Was, at the time of the fault, on high sierra. Went through heaps of troubleshooting; reset SMC, PRAM, reinstall OS etc etc, and finally ended in upgrading to Mujave. Non of these things fixed it. Except now, my dockcase does not work at all. Absolutely nothing passes through it. Have apple done some updating to disable non official dongles and cables? Both the USB C ports on my laptop are functioning perfectly when I plug USB C things into them; so power cable is fine, and sandisk SD card reader also works fine, so it seems the ports are not faulty, and this is some sort of software issue? The monitor recognises something is plugged in, pauses, then when it would normally handshake and display as a second monitor, it just switches to 'no signal.' If I unplug the cable, it switches to 'no cable plugged in.'
