MBP+LIVE7+ITUNES : Please Recommend Audio Interface, Amp, and Speakers

Hello. I am new to this forum. I am building an audio setup at my home to mess with digital audio and to play music. I selected a MBP with 4gig ram running iTunes and Live7 Suite. I have the Axiom 25 midi controller connected via usb. I have been messing about with this setup for a few months now. I have the Harmon Kardon computer speakers and sub that came with a Dell a few years ago. The sound could be much better.

So what do I need?

I am looking at an audio interface, perhaps the duet. Expensive though. And, do I need an additional amp? What speakers do you recommend?

My goal is to be able to play what I create, play other music, or to mess around on the Axiom using Live.

How much do you want to spend? Are you looking to do more than that later?
I have a NI Audio 8 DJ audio interface but I think it is over kill for you.

You will need either an amplifier and passive speakers , OR active (self powered) monitor speakers.
